The natural wonders of the islands have drawn many researchers, including famous geographer, naturalist and explorer Alexander von Humboldt, who visited Tenerife in 1799. His famous drawings of La Orotava dragon tree, which sadly does not exist now, inspired Charles Darwin to plan an expedition to Canary Islands, but later was canceled and he never reached the islands. Local people believe that he would have developed his theory of evolution here in Canary islands.

Canarina canariensis is another iconic plant of Canary Islands and a great example of diverse flora that inhabit the islands.

To find out more about the diversity of Canary Islands nature, please follow our blog Natural World, in the monthly publications we include several species with photos and descriptions.

The use of pesticides, introduction of invasive species and destruction of natural habitat force endemic species to decline, all around the world, therefore we believe it is important to create a space for nature in every farm or garden, however big or small. The diversity of life on our planet is critical for maintaining ecosystems we rely on for food and medicine.
