Hello and welcome! A journey of discoveries and observations of…
The Natural World.
Inside of us!
We grow edible and useful plants in mild and humid climate zone in the north of Tenerife.
June, full of color and life! We were blessed with bright and sunny days, spectacular cloud formations and magical mornings. The intervals of grey, humid, drizzly and cool weather increasingly frequent at the end of the month, although a good opportunity to work the land and sow the seeds.
June is a month when we celebrate summer solstice in the northern hemisphere. This year for the first time since 1967, we could watch full moon on the same night, what a joy to experience! Although it was a cloudy night and the glimpse of the moon rising above volcano El Teide, only lasted for 5min, before the clouds rolled over and hid it from the view. (see photo above)
As usual spending time observing nature and continuing to discover the species that inhabit the island. Here are some photos: The Canary Islands lizards (Gallotia galloti), a butterfly, snail and ladybird; myself with Dragon tree (Dracaena draco) and Convolvulus floridus (guaidil) (white flowers); The Canary Islands chiffchaff (Phylloscopus canariensis) – pair of youngsters on the fig tree, Aeonium tabuliforme and lovely wild field flowers.
What a joy to see the abundance of life, not just in the wild, but in the garden as well. This month we saw the rapid growth of corn and sunflowers, the beautiful floration of pumpkin and zucchini, that was harvested this month, pumpkins will start picking next month, as it takes longer to mature. Also this month picked spring potatoes, carrots and cone cabbage to make sauerkraut (fermented cabbage). Nearly forgot to mention the successful recovery of strawberries after the plague of insects.
This month planted new fruit trees: loquat and avocado seeds, the plants in photos are from the previous year. Our method is sowing fresh seeds directly in the soil of the pot, this method is very successful and we highly recommend it.
It was a good and productive month. Feels good to remember and share it with you!
